My dogs - two English Setters, a Dogo Argentino, an American Bulldog, and a long-term foster Chihuahua - are eating a species-appropriate raw diet exclusively, and my cats are being fed Sensible Choice cat food supplemented by fresh, raw foods. I have seen the benefit of a totally raw diet with my dogs - teeth are pearly white, breath is fresh, no more "doggy" odor, coats are soft and silky, skin is no longer dry and itchy, chronic ear infections are gone, and they just glow with health and vitality. An added benefit is that the feces are small and firm, they become light and dry within 24 hours, and break down completely within a week or so. Yard cleanup is a snap.

My cats and dogs are also minimally-vaccinated. Cats receive one FVRCP vaccine after 12 weeks of age and are never boostered; the dogs have received 2 or 3 DA2PP vaccines (administered before I adopted them), and rabies as required by law. I run titers when the 1-year booster is due and do not booster unless there is an inadequate titer result, and then I administer only the monovalent vaccine.
