Cat-a-Tonic

the song is the theme from "An Affair to Remember"

Tributes, Comfort, and Prayer Sites

The following poem was written by 10-year old Daniel in October 1998 to comfort a friend who had just had his cat put to sleep:

To My Best Friend, From Mr. Kitty

I know you're sad 'cause I had to go away,
You think that we can no longer play,
But listen close - I think I know a way!

Remember when you'd dangle a string,
and I'd jump and pounce,
and you'd dance and sing?
Close your eyes and look really hard,
You can still see us there,
I didn't go very far.

Remember when you'd feed me treats,
But when I tried to get yours too,
You'd say "Not for you, No Sweets!"
And then laugh when I sniffed
and whiskered your feet?
Close your eyes and look really hard,
You can still see us there,
I didn't go very far.

And when it was time to go to bed,
I'd jump up there and purr,
curled up by your head?
Close your eyes and look in your heart,
You can still see us there,
And we'll never part!

Thank you, Daniel, for expressing exactly how I feel about the kitties who've gone to the Rainbow Bridge.

For all of us who have loved and cherished one of God's own....

Hello Little One,

Let me show you around; those things on your shoulders? They're wings, you're an angel now. Your humans? don't worry, they know you're here. Yes, they're very sad, but they'll get better, because they know you won't hurt any more or be sick anymore, and that you'll be happy. Of course it's true....I know, you miss them too, but one day, you can stand at the bridge and watch them cross over and you'll never be separated again. Who are all these other angels? They used to live on earth too, just like you did. I know, there are a lot of them. Yes, we have plenty of room.

Up here, there are butterflies to chase (you're not allowed to catch them), green grass to walk on or roll in, catnip to sniff, chairs to sleep in....I know, I know....you loved to sleep in your person's lap....one day you can do that again....and a lot of sunshine. Who is that man? That's St. Francis...he's the friend of all animals. Yes, he does look a little sad...there are still so many to help, and not enough hands to do the job. Oh yes, we know all about your humans..yes, we know about the kindness, the love, and the open hands ready to help or hold a new lost one. No, you don't have to worry about that...they'll cross the bridge when their time comes....yes, I'm sure.

What's that bright light? That's God, this is His house...no, you don't have to be afraid little one, you're one of his angels now, and you're welcome here. Don't be afraid....go say hello...He's been expecting you. That's right, hold your tail high, hold your head up.

Excuse me, I have to go now, there's someone coming....

Hello, little one......

A Prayer For All Animals

By Albert Schweitzer

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for all those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

December 31, 1998......

I hunted through the tender words
Of poets great and small
I haunted them in search of words
That, to you, would deeply call
I wanted them to speak to you
And comfort you this night
I'm sorry, sorry - dear, dear friend
No words contain such might
If you, perchance, can maybe see
Beyond the pain, eternal tears,
Love dances as it always has
And will for endless years
What was, will ever, always be
Within your beating heart
These words, be all there is, from me
There's no meaning to "apart"
